The Rockets are now under the direction of a former Pirates reserve coach following the departure of the 55-year-old tactician.
Premier Soccer League (PSL) debutants TS Galaxy have parted ways with coach Dan Malesela.
This comes after the Rockets suffered a 3-2 loss to Cape Town in a PSL game that was played in Mother City on Saturday night.
The loss extended the Galaxy’s winless streak to six league games and was also their third loss in a row.
The Rockets issued the following statement Sunday night:
“TS Galaxy FC parted ways with manager Dan Malesela after a series of poor results in which the club failed to win a match in the last six PSL games,” a club statement read.
Malesela had rejoined the Mpumalanga-based team at the start of the current season after leaving the club in February 2020 with the team fighting in the National First Division (NFD).
Galaxy Club president Tim Sukazi explained why they had to cut ties with Malesela, who also coached Chippa United at PSL.
“The decision to part ways with coach Dan was not easy as he has a rich history with our club,” Sukazi said.
“Unfortunately, soccer is a results-driven business and decisions like this can only be based on results rather than history.”
“Coach Dan will always be highly regarded at our club and his name will remain well documented in our history books.”
Sukazi also revealed that Zipho Dlangalala will take over as coach on an interim basis at the club and will be assisted by Esau Mtsweni.
“Coach Zipho will be our head coach in the interim. All I can do is wish him well because he deserves the opportunity to take over as head coach permanently, but only time will tell, “he continued.
“He is a very good coach who I think has potential that has yet to be developed at the highest level of the game.
“Coach Zipho will be assisted by Coach Esau Mtsweni, who has been in the same role for quite some time. We believe there is a good synergy between the two coaches that could bring success to our club.”
Dlangalala has served as the assistant coach for Mamelodi Sundowns and coach for the Orlando Pirates reserve team.
Galaxy’s next game is against Baroka FC in a league game on January 5.
