JOHANNESBURG – The National Tax Authority (NPA) said the state was ready to proceed with the trial for joint assault of the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Julius Malema and MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi on Tuesday morning.
The two were expected to appear in Randburg Magistrates Court to answer allegations that they attacked a police colonel at the funeral of fighting icon Winnie-Madikizela-Mandela in 2018.
Malema and Ndlozi said they were struggling to get into Fourways Memorial Park when the officer stopped them.
Malema flatly denies the claims and that she pushed the VIP protection unit officer.
Meanwhile, EFF members gathered outside the Randburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning before Malema and Ndlozi’s appearance.
Some traveled to court on a bus, while others used minibus taxis and private cars.
Malema arrived at the court with his executive and was in room 13 waiting for the proceedings to begin.
