Political commentator Malaika Mahlatsi is suing her former lover Katlego Mamabolo for the sum of R750,000 for posting defamatory and false statements about her on social media after her breakup.
Through his lawyers, Motalane Inc., Mahlatsi sent a demand letter to Mamabolo today in which he says that he must stop publishing false and malicious statements against him, who withdraws and withdraws all his publications on social networks within the 48 hours after receipt of the letter.
Mahlatsi also demands that Mamobolo pay, within seven days, R750,000 for “the intentional, unjust infringement and damage to reputation” that he suffered due to his posts on social media. The letter, dated May 13, 2020, stated that they will approach the superior court if they do not comply with their demands.
Mahlatsi, who is also a Sowetan columnist, faces an imminent suspension from her job as a speech writer for Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina over the dispute that unfolded on social media.
On his Facebook page, Mamabolo posted an audio clip of a conversation between him and Mahlatsi in which she is heard making claims that the mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina, wants to reduce the salaries of municipal staff members without consulting him. “
She also alleged that Mahlatsi had revealed that she had been assisting Masina with the research for her doctoral studies.
Mamabolo also shared messages and photos that Mahlatsi sent her before she decided to end their brief relationship, a decision with which he was not happy.
