Eskom has confirmed the occurrence of widespread power outages in Gauteng, indicating that it is working to fix the faults.
The power company said the prolonged power outages were due to a series of power grid failures, as well as recent strong storms in the province.
“Eskom customers in Gauteng are experiencing prolonged power supply disruption due to multiple grid failures, along with storms affecting parts of the following areas,” Eskom said, listing the areas below:
- Lanseria
- Morningside
- Muldersdrift
- Paulshof
- Petervale
- Soweto
- Zandspruit
Eskom said it could take longer than usual to restore power to these areas due to the backlog of reports of outages.
“Due to high call volumes, it can take an extended period of time to completely remove the backlog and restore supply to all affected customers,” Eskom said.
“Eskom’s recovery teams are working around the clock to repair failures and damage to restore supply to the affected areas.”
The energy company added that, for safety reasons, customers are urged to treat all electricity points at all times.
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers and wish to assure them that we are doing everything possible to restore supply,” said Eskom.
“Clients in the respective areas will receive updated information on developments through Eskom’s social media platforms and other channels.”
Eskom noted that its call center was currently inundated with calls and encouraged South Africans to report failures through the Eskom app, via email to [email protected], or by SMS to 35328.
