Mokoena said Magashule wanted human settlements to build houses larger than 40mtwo in the budget. Furthermore, Magashule insisted that the department build more houses than those included in the budget.
Faced with this constant pressure, Mokoena felt compelled to resign and left the provincial government, assuming a self-imposed demotion to work for the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality.
“In December 2011 I resigned due to the pressure I was feeling, especially from our prime minister, Mr. Ace Magashule,” Mokoena said.
“U.S [the department] We had a strict schedule to convert the construction material that we had bought into houses. At the same time, during Operation Hlasela, the prime minister sporadically announced the construction of more houses, regardless of being told that we have no budget.
“My main pressure was to ensure that the building material that we had already bought is turned into houses, but when we were busy trying to do it, the prime minister continued to allocate on the other side, outside of budget,” he said.
Mokoena’s testimony continues.
