BLOEMFONTEIN – The ANC secretary general is expected to be arrested on Friday and appear in Bloemfontein magistrates court.

Ace Magashule faces charges related to the Free State’s controversial 2013/2014 asbestos audit.

“It has been happening all the time, so I am not worried at all. The fight continues,” Magashule said.

Some of the charges that Magashule may face under the Preventing and Combating Corrupt Activities Act (PRECCA) are failing to report a crime and directly or indirectly accepting the gratuity for your benefit or that of another person.

His former ally and former MEC for Economic Development in the Free State says he must be held accountable for his actions.

Mxolisi Dukwana said that President Cyril Ramaphosa has his hands full of undesirables at Luthuli House.

“The ANC needs what the president is promoting, unity, etc. You cannot go for unity at all costs. You cannot have unity with criminals,” he said.

Political analyst Lukhona Mnguni chimed in and said: “We come from a time when these law enforcement agencies were effectively emptied and openly used as political vehicles.”

“If you look at how some cases were suppressed and some tried to accelerate. So we have not finished that era, but I think there has been a cleaning of those agencies.”

Magashule maintains that he has done nothing wrong as a law-abiding South African citizen.
