JOHANNESBURG – While the African National Congress (ANC) complains that the leak of the integrity commission report to Ace Magashule has sparked a communication crisis, its allies say the violation was deliberate.
ANC members known for supporting the secretary general have criticized the commission, claiming it is trying to influence the party’s results on the contentious issue.
The commission, which met with Magashule on Saturday after his appearance in the Bloemfontein court, recommended that he step aside with immediate effect.
He is currently out on bail while facing criminal charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering.
Magashule supporters have voiced their disapproval of the leaked ANC integrity commission report and its contents.
Peace and Security Chairman Tony Yengeni took to Twitter and claimed that George Mashamaba, the commission’s chairman, emailed the report directly to members of the national executive committee, calling it extraordinary precedence.
Others like Kebby Maphatsoe questioned the rapid turnaround, arguing that the outcome had already been determined even before Saturday’s meeting.
Carl Niehaus, another known Magashule ally, released a statement complaining about the leak and stating that there was a set agenda.
He has accused the integrity commission of trying to force the hands of the different ANC structures destined to deal with the report.
“Not only is it false, it is actually totally rude to behave in this way. It indicates a factional approach. “
Mashamba has refused to discuss the claims, saying that if there were problems, party members knew where to go.
