  • Seven of the eight ANC regions in the Eastern Cape have expressed a vote of confidence in part of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
  • This was after Andile Lungisa asked the president to stop the attacks on Zuma.
  • These ANC regions have denied their claims, saying they are factually inaccurate.

At least seven of the eight ANC regions in the Eastern Cape have spoken out vigorously against the former vice president of the ANC Youth League, Andile Lungisa.

This, after he asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to stop the attacks on his predecessor Jacob Zuma.

One by one, statements of reproach to the suspended ANC leader, Lungisa, were released from the Eastern Cape regions in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

This is the strongest show of support for Ramaphosa and his ally, Provincial President Oscar Mabuyane, in a province plagued by factional infighting since the disputed ANC conference dubbed the “festival of chairs.”

Lungisa who, after receiving probation after serving two months of his two-year assault sentence, organized a press conference in Port Elizabeth where he spoke at length about Zuma’s problems.

In his interminable speech, Lungisa said that the ANC leaders present, including NEC member Tandi Mahambehlala, former Prime Minister Supra Mahumapelo and former Finance Minister Des van Rooyen, should call on Ramaphosa to stop the attacks on former President Zuma.

Lungisa, a known Zuma ally and ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule, also attacked Provincial Secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi, who said he had little experience in provincial politics, adding that he had been “microwaved” in his post from a sub-region. .

The Eastern Cape regions have criticized the former youth leader, saying his efforts undermined efforts to promote the rule of law, in favor of anarchy and anarchy.

The second-largest ANC region in the country, the OR Tambo region, said it supported its elected leaders and would continue to defend the progressive positions for which they were often attacked.

“There will be no detour. We have a long way to consolidate our organization to prepare for the next assignment at the service of our people. Discipline comes first. There can be no organization without discipline. Take to the public platform and repress the movement” It is little common and must be condemned. It is in this light that we call on all comrades to support our leadership and our movement to condemn poor discipline in our ranks and to focus on building the organization, “said task force coordinator Vinny Tsita.

Chris Hani’s regional secretary, Lusanda Sizani, said Lungisa’s remarks were a gross misrepresentation “of fallacious proportions” to harbor the illusion that Ramaphosa was responsible for the prosecution and legal problems of Zuma.

Sizani said:

“This exposes the total lack of appreciation of the most basic tenant of our democracy for the principle of separation of powers.”

Alfred Nzo’s regional coordinator, Vido Mhlelembana, urged provincial leaders to be decisive and deal with any form of lawlessness, starting with Lungisa. “As the Alfred Nzo Region, we are still satisfied with the collective leadership and we encourage you comrades not to divert the focus to these small trends that seem to be orchestrated somewhere,” he said.

The regional secretary of Dr. WB Rubusana, Antonio Carels, trusted the provincial leadership of Mabuyane and said that Lungisa’s statements seriously insulted the intellectual capacity of most of the branches that had placed their hopes in the leadership that today is being undermined by an individual.

The ANC in the province has disagreed after it chose Mabuyane as the leader of the “festival of the chairs” in 2017.

Lungisa has been a headache for Mabuyane, who fought to keep him at bay while serving as a Nelson Mandela Bay councilor. It took Mabuyane and his secretary nearly two years to get Lungisa to resign as a member of the mayor’s committee, even after asking Luthuli House for help.

Lungisa has indicated that he will mobilize on the ground in towns and cities for a special conference before the national general council to discuss a radical transformation of the economy.

In his statement Tuesday, Lungisa said:

“We need to maintain national unity, where we are saying, a person who is a former president, a former leader, we have to make sure they don’t harass. We give them space with their own families, with their own grandchildren without interrupting them.”

Lungisa warned that a civil war could break out if Zuma was not left alone. This is the similar warning from the leader of the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association, aligned with Zuma, Kebby Maphatsoe.

Maphatsoe told News24 that those who loved Zuma might react emotionally and hinted that this could result in his supporters overthrowing Ramaphosa.

The coordinator of the task force in Nelson Mandela Bay, Luyolo Nqakula, has competed with Lungisa for control of the party in the region and on the ANC council.

Nqakula also expressed his frustration with Lungisa, calling him a “rebel element”.

“This mutinous behavior is an extreme form of provocation that can only be spearheaded by reactionary and counterrevolutionary forces that have no space in our movement.

“It is written on the wall that the culprits are concerned and at no point will we have and / or expect any Joe Gqabian to associate with dissident groups, as we are confident that we stand behind the results of the 8th Provincial Conference alongside the results of the 54th National Conference, because any deviation will leave the collective with no choice but to deal decisively with such false elements, “wrote Sakhele Searchmore, coordinator of Joe Gqabi’s region task force.

Johannes Hobbs, Sarah Baartman’s region secretary, said he wanted to remind Lungisa and others that the arms deal-related charges against Zuma date back to 2005.
