Johannesburg – No thieves shot dead Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa on that fateful October night six years ago. Instead, the former captain was shot dead by Longwe Twala during an argument with Twala’s then-girlfriend, Zandi Khumalo.

This was the sensational claim of Siyabonga Miya, the former footballer’s cousin, who has become the spokesperson for the family since Meyiwa’s father Sam died last July.

Miya claimed that Longwe, the son of music mogul Chicco Twala, was the one who pulled the trigger after having an argument with Twala’s then-girlfriend Zandi.

Miya was speaking with Newzroom Afrika on Tuesday after a News24 report on Tuesday said police investigators investigating the Meyiwa case had found a weapon that she allegedly used in her murder on October 26, 2014.

In the past, several law enforcement officers have said the case is too complex and will likely never be resolved. According to News24, they have spoken to a police officer associated with the investigation who claims that the firearm they have apparently discovered, and the suspect they have identified, could ultimately result in prosecution.

The man who allegedly fatally shot Meyiwa is in a Johannesburg prison serving a 30-year sentence for the murder of an Alexandra taxi chief, according to the News24 report.

However, the National Police have denied having knowledge of it.

Spokesman Vish Naidoo said police “don’t know anything about the weapon.”

“If there is anything about the Meyiwa affair, everyone will be informed, it will not be anyone’s first. The national police are the only ones talking about it, ”Naidoo said.

Despite Naidoo’s claim, several media leaks about the murder have emerged over the years.

This includes the claim that there was no robbery or robbers involved, which was reported by the Sunday Independent last November, and a City Press report in August, which claimed that Meyiwa’s girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, ordered the hit in the man’s life. former goalkeeper and paid the hit men R45,000 instead of the agreed R250,000.

Meyiwa was at Kelly’s home in Vosloorus when he was shot dead. At the time of her death, police said armed men broke into the home and shot Meyiwa dead during the riot.

In the house that fateful day were Meyiwa, Kelly, and Zandi, their mother Ntombi Khumalo, Twala, Meyiwa’s friends Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala, and Kelly’s 4-year-old son Christian and Thingo, Kelly’s daughter with Senzo. .

In November last year, the Sunday Independent reported that Meyiwa had been “shot by mistake”, allegedly by one of the seven people present, but witnesses claimed it was an imaginary robbery gone wrong in part of a cover-up involving to senior police officers.

A senior official involved in the case had been accused of thwarting the ends of justice, but while the matter was ongoing, he was transferred to KwaZulu-Natal, the newspaper reported.

The Sunday Independent also reported that Ntombi had given Meyiwa’s phone to a neighbor after the shooting, allegedly in an attempt to strengthen the story of the robbery.

The Meyiwa family spokesman, Miya, claimed on Tuesday that they had learned of the reports of a weapon used in their murder through the media and that the police had not contacted them.

Miya alleged that the Commissioner of the National Police, General Khehla Sitole, had assembled his own team to investigate the murder and, he claimed, that the country’s top policeman also knew that someone had shot Meyiwa inside Khumalo’s home that day. .

“The police at this time are supposed to arrest Longwe Twala for killing Senzo. Senzo was shot by Longwe Twala, there was no one to enter the house.

“Then after that they have to arrest all the police in the case for thwarting the ends of justice.

“Senzo was shot by Longwe Twala,” Miya alleged.

Miya claimed that Meyiwa’s childhood friend Tumelo, who had traveled to Gauteng to visit Meyiwa that weekend, called the family and uttered the words “Zandi’s boyfriend shot Senzo.”

“Tumelo made a call, the first call to the Meyiwa family, to say that Senzo was shot.

“He said that Zandile’s boyfriend, whose name he didn’t know, shot Senzo.

“And then deep down, Kelly was crying saying ‘kodwa ngizothini ku maka Senzo (what shall I say to Senzo’s mom).’

“That information was handed over to SAPS, I don’t know why they didn’t arrest Longwe Twala. You can quote me on that. Zandi’s boyfriend shot and killed Senzo Meyiwa in cold blood, ”Miya claimed.

Miya alleged that it was up to the police to make arrests in the case.

“If they don’t want to do the research, they should leave it.

“For me and my family, whether they arrest him or not is up to them, because we have said it several times, there was no one to enter the house,” Miya said.

Miya said that the family, and Senzo’s mother in particular, were not well.

“God will heal us one day,” he said.
