The daily local drama Rhythm City has been surprisingly canned by e.tv after 13 years.
The channel broke the news in a statement Friday afternoon.
The show, produced by Quizzical Pictures, currently stars Mduduzi Mabaso, Mapula Mafole, Slindile Nodangala, Linda Sokhulu, and Mcedisi Shabangu.
The last episode will air on July 16, 2021.
“e.tv continues to look forward to fulfilling its mandate to produce exceptional and relevant local content, and the production has successfully fulfilled its part of the obligation for the past 13 years,” said Marlon Davids, CEO of e.tv.
“Rhythm City has secured its place in the e.tv history books and has left a mark of legacy. We want to extend our appreciation to the entire production staff, crew and cast for their incomparable craft. “
The news is shocking since the program is the second most watched on the free commercial station, with a maximum of 5.2 million viewers.
It was also named best telenovela at this year’s South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas).
The show first aired on July 9, 2007.
