JOHANNESBURG – A Vhembe district director in Venda won the 2020 African Union Continental Teachers Award for her hard work and dedication to the profession.

Livhalani Bridget Sinyosi, principal of Dzata High School at Nzhelele East Circuit, Vhembe West District, was announced as the winner on Monday. She was nominated for the award by the Department of Basic Education.

The UA Teaching Award has been established as a means of demonstrating respect for teachers and the teaching profession, encouraging and celebrating committed teachers on the continent.

Sinyosi received the award specifically for having demonstrated qualities to participate in quality teaching, helping students achieve long-term professional goals by organizing engagement with relevant agencies, participating in activities and networks that enhance the social and cultural value of the learning and encouraging desirable behavior among students through positive feedback.

She has been in the education sector for 25 years, having worked as a teacher, department head, deputy director and now director. He has a Master of Education in Curricular Studies and is currently a PhD student at the University of South Africa.
