Liverpool are poised to sign a “young standout” in Preston North End defender Ben Davies, according to the club’s adviser to the owner.
Davies has been a mainstay for the Championship team in recent years. He has made more than 30 league appearances with them in each of the last three seasons.
He has already played 18 times for them in the second division this term, as Preston sits 12th at the table.

Jurgen Klopp has wanted to sign a new defender this month with Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez injured. He has fulfilled his wish as Liverpool to sign two before the deadline.
Davies is set to join the Premier League champions in a deal worth around £ 2 million. Liverpool are also likely to capture Ozan Kabak on an initial loan deal from Schalke.
Preston boss Peter Ridsdale told talkSPORT, quoted by the Daily star, that Davies is a great professional:
“He is an outstanding young man. Down to earth, very professional. It looks like a Rolls Royce!
“When I was in the academy, I used to go watch him play and he stood out and was by far the best player there.
“Then he was on loan, so he has a lot of games under his belt. He deserves his chance, he is a very good player.
Davies seemed likely to join Scottish giants Celtic before Liverpool swooped in to sign him.
Ridsdale added: “We are very happy with the deal as the alternative was for him to go to Celtic for nothing.
“We have an investment in their future as there is a sale clause, so we are very happy with the deal we have made with Liverpool.
“From the young man’s point of view, he has been outstanding for us. I think having the opportunity to play for a club like Liverpool is brilliant ”.
