Mohamed Salah has responded to claims that he is unhappy in Liverpool by posting a smiling selfie on social media. The player’s future has been subject to speculation following claims that he could leave Anfield in the near future.
On Twitter and Instagram, the Egyptian posted a photo of himself smiling through his camera lens, a direct response to claims about his current state of mind at the club.
Salah decided not to post a caption with the photo, but given the time of publication, the link is clear.
The debate about the future of the player intensified over the weekend after an interview he gave to the Spanish publication AS, in which a possible transfer to Barcelona or Real Madrid was hinted at.
Liverpool’s scoring sensation refused to rule out a move to either of La Liga’s top two clubs and seemed uncommitted to his future with the reigning Premier League champions.
“I think Madrid and Barcelona are top clubs,” he said. “We never know what will happen in the future.
“Right now I am focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League again with my club.
“Everything is in the hands of the club. Of course I want to break records here and, I repeat, all the records of the club, but everything is in the hands of the club.”
Salah also expressed his “disappointment” at being overlooked for the captaincy in Liverpool’s Champions League draw with FC Midtjylland earlier this month.
In the absence of the club’s regular captain, Jordan Henderson, and vice-captain James Milner, Jurgen Klopp chose to hand over the bracelet to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
“Honestly, I was very disappointed,” Salah admitted.
“I was hoping to be the captain. But it’s a coach’s decision, so I accept it.”
When asked about the interview, Klopp refused to be swayed by his forward’s comments.
“In my opinion, Liverpool are considering selling Salah for financial reasons.”
Salah was left out of Liverpool’s starting lineup for the trip to Crystal Palace, as Klopp decided to put his star man to rest before the busy Christmas schedule.
After being introduced as a substitute, the forward scored twice in a resounding 7-0 victory.
Salah’s double at Selhurst Park brought him to 16 for the season in all competitions, and 110 in total for Liverpool since arriving from Rome in 2017.
