Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

The pair apparently have a good relationship despite the rivalry between the two clubs.

Klopp woke up Ferguson in the early hours after Liverpool won the Premier League last summer by calling him on the phone during team celebrations.

After Klopp was named the LMA Manager of the Year, Ferguson jokingly congratulated him and said, “I’ll forgive you for waking me up at 3:30 am to tell me you won the league.”

It is not known how many times the pair have actually faced each other, and Ferguson is still eager to attend United’s games at Old Trafford whenever possible.

But Klopp has revealed that he still remembers the first time he met the legendary Scotsman.

He joked that meeting Ferguson was like meeting the Pope, such was his admiration for the former United manager.

“It was a long time ago and I’m not sure he remembers it yet, but I remember it forever because it was for me at this moment like meeting the Pope if you want!” Klopp said.

Sir Alex Ferguson was woken up by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after the Reds won the Premier League.

Speaking to BT, Klopp spoke about his late-night interaction with Ferguson after the Reds won the title, and spoke more about his friendship with the Old Trafford icon.

“The problem was, I came back to my room late that night and couldn’t sleep right away, so I checked the messages I received and one of them was from Alex Ferguson,” Klopp said.

“I think I just answered in a very polite way. It was around 3.30 am-4am and I didn’t expect her to have her phone next to her bed.

“I didn’t want to wake him up. If that happened, sorry Alex!

“Since then we have not been in contact. He is still the former Manchester United manager and I don’t think he wants to tell me too much about Liverpool’s success.”

“He respects it, but it is not what he likes to see the most on television.”
