Liverpool have the cards on the ‘unhappy’ Mohamed Salah

Liverpool have all the important cards when it comes to the ‘unhappy’ Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian “is not happy,” according to a former partner.

Mohamed Salah is apparently ‘unhappy’ in Liverpool. That’s according to former international teammate Mohamed Aboutrika.

The 42-year-old told beIN Sports that Salah is ‘upset’ in Liverpool. However, he only gives one reason, mentioning that the forward was not a captain against FC Midtjylland.

That’s something Salah said is a disappointment in an interview with AS this weekend.

That interview also saw Salah say that his future is completely in the hands of Liverpool. He is also absolutely right: the Reds have all the cards here.

Decision makers

The ‘player power’ is a real thing. If someone wants to leave, they can almost always do so; the stars can also choose the new club.

Few know this better than Liverpool, who have seen all the previous stars push a movement in the post-Bosman era of government. Except Steven Gerrard, of course.

But Michael Owen left, Xabi Alonso left, Javier Mascherano left, Fernando Torres left, Luis Suárez left, Raheem Sterling left and Philippe Coutinho left. Each of them to the team of their choice and when they wanted.

However, now things are different. Liverpool are thriving and no player can alter that. Not even Salah.

There is no scandal he can build in the next few years that would seriously damage Liverpool, with two important things to remember.

First of all, he has a contract until 2023 and Liverpool analyzes the contracts correctly. We’re looking at that right now as they get every penny out of Gini Wijnaldum’s.

Yes, they likely lose it for nothing in the end, but they get what they pay for. There are no advance sales for a reduced rate. We saw the same with Emre Can.

Thus, Salah will know that Liverpool have little problem to retain him until 2023. If that is what they want.

The other thing to consider is that Salah will turn 29 next season. Like Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Liverpool, then, need to think about the next generation of forwards.

That may well mean that they decide to sell Salah. However, it definitely means that they will decide when it will end.

The Reds must plan their succession carefully, probably replacing the forwards gradually, one at a time. Salah will go into that and Liverpool will weigh when the time comes to step aside.

Salah, however, cannot decide that moment himself. This is bigger than just one player – the top three are the dominant force in Liverpool.

Such a delicate exercise requires planning and a “annoying” player will not change that.

So Liverpool have no reason to sell early and every reason to control the situation themselves. They certainly have the cards here.
