A “drama” was already brewing between Lionel Messi and Barcelona even before a ball was kicked in the tough defeat of Bayern Munich, defender Jerome Boateng has sensationally asserted.
The humiliating 8-2 loss in Lisbon appears to have been the final straw for Messi, who has since officially informed his longtime club of his wish to walk away with a free transfer this summer.
But there were signs of discontent before a ball was kicked in the Champions League semi-final, and Boateng noted that all was not in harmony within the rival ranks.

“You noticed beforehand that there was drama between Messi and Barcelona,” Boateng told Bild.
Messi went on to be marked out of the game by Bayern, who annulled his position and educated Barça in a soccer masterclass.
The loss to Bayern was the final straw for Messi, who has been part of several major European defeats
Since then, Messi has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City to re-link with his former manager Pep Guardiola.
Boateng added: “Pep and Messi have celebrated great successes together, so both sides know that their philosophies would fit together.”
On Sunday, however, Messi took a hit in hopes of moving forward after LaLiga ruled in favor of Barça on the terms of the player’s contract.

A La Liga statement said: ‘The contract is currently in force and has a “termination clause” applicable in the event that Lionel Andrés Messi decides to urge the early unilateral termination of the contract, carried out in accordance with article 16 of the Royal Decree 1006/1985, of June 26, which regulates the special employment relationship of professional athletes.
” In compliance with the applicable regulations, and following the corresponding procedure in these cases, LaLiga will not carry out the prior visa procedure for the player to be removed from the federation if he has not previously paid the amount (£ 630 million) of said clause .
