Koeman is already under fire when Barcelona’s wheels start to fall off
Lionel Messi, who has been Barcelona’s hero so many times, is having a mediocre start to the season after scoring just two goals, both from penalties.
The dominance of Real Madrid over Barcelona in El Clásico expressed the concern of the Catalans to the world. The Blaugrana were frustrated by the meringues on big occasions in the match, with Sergio Ramos doing a brilliant job of keeping Lionel Messi at bay. The Argentine forward’s terrible start to the season saw him run out of goals in another match.
More of All Barça
Messi has not scored a goal in six games in all competitions against Real Madrid and his sterile streak against the whites has spanned more than 900 days. Not to mention, the captain’s slow start to the season has been one of the main reasons the team has yet to find its team with Ronald Koeman.
Lionel Messi has scored just two goals all season in all competitions in six games and his two goals have come from the penalty spot. For a player who is usually the heart of everything that flows for a team of Barça’s caliber, these are definitely bad numbers and the manager has not shied away from the fact that Messi needs to improve his game.
One of the main reasons Messi could underperform for the Blaugrana would be his lack of motivation. It is no secret that he wanted to leave the club and the 33-year-old seems fed up with how things are going at the Camp Nou. Not to mention, it appears that he has been held hostage in Barcelona even though he wanted to leave.
With players like Ansu Fati, Pedri and Francisco Trincao at the helm, the club could gradually be ready for life after Messi, but that certainly doesn’t mean that the best Blaugrana should never show interest in the proceedings. At the moment, Messi has a contract and must respect it whether or not he wants to stay at the club by choice.
Do you think Messi’s poor form is the reason for Barcelona’s run of three league games without victories?
