Lionel Messi has given the most personal interview of his career and has talked about all aspects of Barcelona, including its long-term future and the direction of the club.
He chose to stay to avoid a legal battle with his two-decade-old employers. Now, in a revealing interview with La Sexta, Messi has revealed that numerous lawyers informed him that he would have won any form of court case.
By @barcacentre He said, “Free dating last summer? I knew if we went to court, we would have won. Not just one lawyer told me, many did. But I didn’t want to leave that way.
“I will not negotiate with other clubs. I will wait for the season to end and I will decide in June.”
Among the clubs interested in signing the Argentine were Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
When asked if he would send the burofax again despite the controversy, Messi answered by Fabrizio Romano: “I spent the whole year counting [former president Josep] Bartomeu who wanted to leave Barcelona.
“But the president always said ‘No.’ The burofax was a way of making it official. I thought I had completed a cycle. I need a change. I wanted to go, the Barça cycle had ended.
“My kids said they didn’t want to leave, but I felt it was the best for me. I felt like a cycle had ended.”
Ronald Koeman replaced Quique Setien and Barça currently ranks fifth in La Liga.
“These days I feel good,” Messi continued.
Messi: “If Xavi comes, will I stay? I don’t know, we’ll see what happens in June.”

Messi: “It will be difficult to bring players. There is no money. We have to bring important players. Bringing Neymar would be very expensive. It will be a difficult situation for the new president, he must be smart.”

“I had a really bad time last summer with the burofax and all that, and before.
“But now I feel good, excited to fight for everything we have ahead of us. But the club is going through a difficult time, the team too. Everything at Barça is complicated.
“I know that things at Barça are very, very bad. It will be difficult to get back to where we were.”
Messi: “Have I cried lately? I didn’t cry for sporting problems, but I suffered a lot. I cried for other problems, but I prefer not to go into details.”

Messi’s interview was very refreshing to listen to. Today we have seen a very different Messi and we have heard things that we never knew about him. The only thing that caught my attention was the fact that he dreams of playing in the United States.

Among other issues discussed was his reaction to the death of Diego Maradona, his dream of playing in the United States and seeing himself as a retired sports director.
