Lionel Messi fans have approached Antoine Griezmann in his car to demand that the Barcelona player respect more of the club’s all-time top scorer.
Griezmann’s move from Atlético de Madrid to Barça in July 2019 has been far from the success that the fans and the player expected.
Much of the French player’s troubles have been attributed to Messi, especially by those around the former Atleti star.
Speaking recently on Spanish television his uncle Emmanuel Lopes said: “[Griezmann] I was convinced that it was not going to be successful in the first six months, but what I did not expect was that it would last a whole year …
“… Basically, [Messi] he doesn’t work enough at Barça and the training sessions are structured to please certain people, which is fine if you don’t want to work [as hard]. “
Messi fans have not taken those criticisms well and several waited for the former Real Sociedad striker outside of Barca’s training ground to approach him, demanding that he show more respect for the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.
In Griezmann’s defense it is not he who is coming out with the criticism of Messi and it is not due to lack of trying that the 29-year-old player seems unable to make it work at the Camp Nou.
11 days agoThe French international managed to score later in the game, with Barca winning 5-2, but there was obviously pressure on him when he missed the penalty.
“… It is the club that is sick, not him. Last year, when Antoine arrived, Messi did not speak to him, he did not pass the ball to him. He created a real trauma for him by a more than negative adaptation.
“That clearly left its mark. It was clear and visible. Add to that the president resigned, the club conceded eight against Bayern and three different coaches … Conditions are not good.”
Hopefully the couple can be on the same page in the near future.
