The police spokesman, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, said: “During the arrest, one of [the foreign nationals] he allegedly pulled out a knife and advanced on the police officers, allegedly threatening to stab them, but was shot and injured.

Mojapelo said:

The brother of the injured foreigner allegedly incited community members in the area to attack the policemen, who then began to throw stones and in the process, [injured] three policemen and [damaged] its three vehicles. Community members then released all of the arrested illegal immigrants from the police vehicles.

The injured received medical treatment and were later discharged.

The police then located one of the four men and arrested him at a hospital where he was being treated for injuries.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Maj. Gen. Jan Scheepers said: “We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the conduct manifested by these community members. The police will not tolerate any form of lawlessness and any attack against them will be answered accordingly. appropriate way. “

A manhunt of the other three men is underway.

Cases of illegal immigration, assault, escape from custody, intentional damage to property and incitement to crime are being investigated.
