Limpopo Prime Minister Stanley Mathabatha has warned residents of the resurgence of Covid-19 infections in the province.

The warning comes after the province recorded a higher number of infections in the municipalities of Makhado, Thulamela, Polokwane and Thabazimbi.

The province is now on high alert.

“Among the main factors that contributed to the second wave in the province is the behavior shown by the majority of young people during this festive season. So far videos have appeared on social media platforms where young people attend super broadcast events and completely ignore health protocols, ”Mathabatha said in a statement.

“We are reiterating our call to society at large to treat this year’s holiday season as an unusual business. Parents are asked to take responsibility for youth action. Movements should be limited as much as possible.

“Events must be attended by close family members, few friends and a limited number of family members. People are urged to wear masks, exercise social distancing, practice health hygiene at all times. We are under siege due to this pandemic and we should all practice the new normal. “
