LEWIS HAMILTON wore a shirt demanding justice for Breonna Taylor before and after winning the Grand Prix of Tuscany.
The British F1 superstar won the eventful race for his 90th victory, one less than Michael Schumacher’s record, and ended his winner’s speech by saying, “Justice for Breonna Taylor.”
Hamilton’s jersey, which he wore when joined by some drivers who knelt before the race and afterwards while on the podium, read: “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor.”
According to Sky Sports, Hamilton will now be investigated by the FIA for wearing the jersey.
One tweet read: “The FIA is investigating Lewis Hamilton for wearing a T-shirt with a message about the shooting of Breonna Taylor before and after her victory at the Tuscan GP.”
The sport’s governing body bans political messages and it has been reported elsewhere that Hamilton is said to have “crossed a line” with his latest message.
Taylor, 26, was shot and killed when officers broke into her Kentucky apartment with a drug search warrant in March.
Three officers were involved in the raid, including Detective Brett Hankison, who was fired while the other two were fired.
FIGHT FOR JUSTICE
But there have been no convictions as his family has continued to demand justice.
And Hamilton has echoed those comments with the powerful statement when he took to Instagram to show the message before wearing the shirt in public.
Hamilton has been a prominent voice during the Black Lives Matter movement in recent months.
That included asking broadcasters to help support F1’s anti-racism message.
He also attended a BLM movement in London as protests broke out around the world following the murder of George Floyd.
Last month, the police shot Jacob Blake, a black man, seven times in the back in horrifying images and he was paralyzed from the waist down.
Following the shooting, Hamilton said: “I will try to talk to Formula 1 to see what else we can do to continue raising awareness.
“Naturally, as a sport, I think we should all be aligned, support each other, although it is a different sport.
“Ultimately, it is disgusting that minorities and people have to protest to get justice.
“And even when they do, justice is still not served.
“It’s a mess there, but I’m very inspired and proud of the other athletes who are using the platform they have, using their voice.”
