Level 3: Tshwane closes recreational facilities, nature reserves remain open

  • The City of Tshwane has closed a number of recreational facilities in accordance with the adjusted Level 3 closure regulations.
  • Several recreational complexes have also been closed.
  • The nature reserves will remain open, but some activities have been prohibited.

The city of Tshwane has closed a number of recreational facilities, including swimming pools, picnic areas and campgrounds, in accordance with adjusted Level 3 closure regulations released Tuesday.

On Monday, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the government’s decision to return to a Level 3 lockdown amid rising Covid-19 infections. He said the decision was necessary due to the increase.

As of December 29, South Africa had 1,021,451 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 27,568 Covid-19-related deaths.

Several areas were also identified as hotspots and Tshwane was one of them.

According to a statement from the city of Tshwane, the following recreational complexes have been closed:

  • Valley of the fountains
  • Derdepoort
  • Rooihuiskraal
  • Ga-mothakga
  • Kwaggaspruit
  • Zwartkop Lapa
  • Moretele
  • Bronkies angling
  • The turn
  • Klipkruisfontein
  • Joos Becker Caravan Park
  • Rietvlei Angling

The following nature reserves will remain open from 09:00 to 18:00:

  • Wonderboom
  • Groenkloof
  • Austin Roberts
  • Klapperkop
  • Rietvlei
  • Faerie Glen
  • Moreleta ravine

The City said these facilities will only be open for self-driving game viewing, hiking, and mountain bike trails. However, picnic sites and bird caches will be closed in all nature reserves.

Additionally, according to new regulations, alcohol will not be allowed while viewing driverless games, hiking, and mountain bike trails.

All dams, municipal swimming pools, camping and picnic areas will remain closed until further notice.
