Johannesburg – Gauteng Department of Education, MEC Panyaza Lesufi, confirmed Sunday that another matriculation test may have been leaked.

At a news conference on Sunday, Lesufi said the department was investigating whether the life sciences exam document was leaked.

It was confirmed that math exam 2 was leaked. Last week, the department was investigating the physical science article 2 leak. There were also allegations that the math exam 1 test was leaked in KwaZulu-Natal.

Lesufi said: “The department has launched investigations into the leak of three tests. The last one is the life sciences and the team is working on that. These are national jobs and the national minister (Angie Motshekga) is responsible for the exam, but we are concerned that there are people who think they may undermine the credibility of the exam. The exam remains intact. “

Lesufi said that more than 53,000 students did not return to class after schools reopened after closing for months due to Covid-19. He said he blamed the organizations that had called for the cancellation of the school year for the massive dropouts.

“We want to directly blame the populists who said that the academic year should not continue. We believe these students listened to these populist leaders, some of whom failed as priests. These are people who should be held accountable.

“The price is too high. These students can come back as criminals. These students can come back as social grant recipients. Their lives are forever turned upside down. That’s why as a department we said ‘we’re going to track them down and persuade them to come back to early 2021. ‘There is not one pass, all pass, ”Lesufi said.

Regarding placements for the 2021 academic year for grades 1 and 8, Lesufi said they had placed more than 81% of all students. Locations are supposed to end today.

He said 280 schools were full so far and the department would release the names of schools with available space and urge parents to accept those available spaces.
