Leopards on the hunt for a trainer

Despite showing signs of promise after helping the Black Leopards maintain their Premiership status, Mongezi Bobe and Morgan Shivambu will not be retained as coaches before the new season.

Leopards confirmed that they planned to bring in a trainer who has experience with Shivambu and Bobe to help him.

Both Shivambu and Bobe impressed by helping Lidoda Duvha win the playoffs after beating Ajax Cape Town 2-0 at Rand Stadium on Friday with an outstanding match against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) today.

Leopards general manager Tshifhiwa ‘Chief’ Thidiela said it was always planned that they would bring in a coach when Bobe and Shivambu were named interim coaches.

“We will get a coach. We have a plan, we don’t want to pressure them, ”Thidiela told Sowetan yesterday.

“You guys [media] you’ll come and push and say things. We knew when we named them that we would get a coach. We don’t want to put them under too much pressure. Some will say that it means that you don’t have faith in them, that you don’t trust the SA coaches forgetting that we were the ones who went and put them there. “

Thidiela added that the duo still need to learn and don’t want to throw them into the abyss.

“We need a suitable moment, they still need to learn more and acquire more qualifications. Bobe just started training last season at the MultiChoice Diski Challenge. We need to build them, ”Thidiela said.

“They still have their positions at the club, they have done their job. But we will look for another coach from whom they can learn more ”.

Shivambu, however, said the duo did not see the club hiring a coach as a problem and admitted that they still needed to learn.

“I have no problem as long as [they bring] someone who adds value to the team, ”said Bobe.

“When it comes to training, Bobe and I… are still young as someone who has started playing soccer. When it comes to coaching, there is still a lot to learn.

“So if that coach comes, we must learn from him and we will support him while he’s here.
