SOWETO – African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Ace Magashule said former President Jacob Zuma should stay alone, rather than accuse those calling for him to be disciplined and expelled from the ANC as populist.
Magashule spoke to journalists in Soweto on Wednesday and defended Zuma, saying the former leader was a South African who has his own rights.
Zuma, in a forceful statement this week, said he would defy both an order from the Constitutional Court and the state’s arrest commission of inquiry to return to the witness stand and respond to the multiple accusations leveled against him.

Magashule himself faces corruption charges in connection with the Free State asbestos project.
His position on Zuma is clear: “Leave President Zuma alone; leave it alone! “
In a heated back and forth between Magashule and journalists, the ANC secretary general has called for the former leader’s rights to be respected.
Magashule also didn’t bite the word when addressing ANC leaders, already calling for the party to act against Zuma.
On Jacob Zuma: the time of a despot to confront democracy
The Eastern Cape ANC and Derek Hannekom are just a few who have shared their thoughts on this.
“The Eastern Cape is not the national executive committee of the ANC and it is wrong for comrades to try to become populist and talk about Zuma all the time.”
Magashule has vowed to involve the former leader himself in the matter.
