Latest Covid-19 numbers: 18,151 deaths, 696,414 cases, and a 90% recovery rate

South Africa recorded 123 more Covid-19-related deaths on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 18,151.

Deaths have been reported in the following provinces: 44 in the Eastern Cape, 14 in the Free State, 17 in KwaZulu-Natal, 35 in Gauteng, eight in the Northwest and five in the Western Cape.

“We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and we thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased patients,” Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement Wednesday night.

The cumulative number of tests performed to date is 4,458,745, with 24,793 new tests performed since the last report.

Recoveries now stand at 626,898, which translates to a 90% recovery rate.
