A fantastic 103-race partnership between Lara goodall Y Mignon du Preez saw the Proteas women house in the room ODI against India in Lucknow on Sunday.

The visitors scored 269/3 to win the game over seven wickets with eight balls remaining, claiming the series thanks to an unassailable 3-1 lead with just one game left.

It is the second time that the Proteas women have won a series in India, having also triumphed in 2014.

Set 267 to win, the South African chase got off to a perfect start when Lizelle Lee (69 of 75 balls) and reserve captain Laura Wolvaardt (53 of 78) put in 116 balls for the first wicket.

But with both in the space of six overs, Goodall and du Preez (61 of 55 balls) were left to steady the boat.

And they did it with a partnership that put them within 31 races of victory before Du Preez fell with 31 races still needed.

Goodall (59 * of 66) and Marizanne Kapp (22 * of 18) kept their cool to see South Africa at home for an emphatic victory.

In early India, the first hitting was boosted to 266/4 thanks to 104 * from Punam Raut.

She was ably assisted by Captain Milthali Raj (45) and Harmanpreet Kaur (54 *).

In a good batting band, the South African bowlers fought with Tumi Sekhukhune taking 2/63 in eight overs, Shabnim Ismael 1/50 and Nondumiso Shangase 1/41, both in 10 over spells.

But it mattered little as his hitter was securing a series win.
