In his virtual message on the Day of Reconciliation, the president spoke out against corruption, saying that if he continued to steal resources for the benefit of the people, the country would never achieve reconciliation.

“In order for us to address poverty and inequality, businesses must support redress policies,” Ramaphosa said. “Our companies must reflect their support for transformation through hiring practices, training and educating staff, and investing in the communities in which they operate.”

He added: “Agricultural organizations and landowners must support the government’s efforts towards agrarian reform, which is a fundamental part of reconciliation.”

Ramaphosa said that South Africans must individually and collectively commit to social cohesion and nation building.

“Regardless of how we identify ourselves, whether on the basis of race, language, ethnicity, sexual orientation, region or class, we are all an integral part of the beautiful tapestry that makes up this great country,” he said.

“Let’s be accountable to the people, respect public resources, and uphold the highest standards of ethics and morality,” he said.
