KZN shut down in December as COVID-19 infections rise

DURBAN – At least one of South Africa’s top vacation destinations is canceling major parties and events this holiday season.

The KwaZulu-Natal government said the events will not be allowed to host as COVID-19 infections are increasing in the province.

He said his decision is based on the advice of medical and scientific experts.

Prime Minister Sihle Zikalala said the province is approaching a second wave of the virus.

He said the provincial government understands the economic impact of not hosting major events, which inject millions of rand into the province’s pocket, but Zikalala said protecting the lives of citizens is more important.

The premier has urged people to visit his province, saying that they can do small activities.
