Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Sipho Hlomuka has urged the residents of KwaZulu-Natal to be vigilant as weather conditions continue to deteriorate in the province.
This after heavy rains hit the province, which damaged homes, roads and the electricity grid.
Inclement weather had hit eThekwini and Msunduzi since New Year’s Eve, Hlomuka said.
This left several communities without power, with engineers working hard to restore power to the affected areas, he added.
According to him, several houses were partially damaged by strong winds and heavy rains in the municipalities of Greater Kokstad and Ukhahlamba on Friday.
“Disaster management teams have been dispatched to the affected areas and are conducting assessments of the extent of the damage. So far, no reports of injuries or deaths have been received.”
Hlomuka appealed to residents to remain cautious, as poor weather conditions were expected to persist through the weekend.
