The suspects, aged 40 and 47, were captured during a sting operation carried out on Bhoola Road, Effingham Heights, by the Drugs and Firearms Unit.

“We proceeded to said premises, where two occupants were found in the cocaine manufacturing process using powdered cocaine with different additives.”

Gwala added that a new search at the site led to the recovery of 85 units of rock cocaine, 3.7 kg of powdered cocaine, 15 bottles of spices containing rock cocaine and five boxes of sodium bicarbonate.

Police also seized R94 160 in cash suspected of drug proceeds.

The value of the recovered drugs was 1.5 million rand, Gwala said.

“This arrest and recovery is evidence that our operations are still ongoing. We will ensure that we deal decisively with drug traffickers in our province by placing them behind bars.

“Drug use will not be tolerated in our province,” said KwaZulu-Natal Acting Police Commissioner Major General Thulani Gonya.
