The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education suspended two students from Mathole High School after a video of one of them attacking the other went viral.
“The [department] has summarily suspended two students, pending disciplinary hearing, who assaulted a student shown in the gruesome video clip circulating on social media, “he said in a statement Tuesday.
In the video, which went viral on Monday, a student can be seen on the floor while another student rips her underwear. The attacking student then begins to deliver a flurry of blows while the other, helpless, takes the beating and the students watch.

The department said the school was ordered to end disciplinary proceedings within seven days.
“Currently competent psychologists from the department of social development are offering professional therapy to the victim and other affected students.”
The department’s legal services officials have also been ordered to help the victim open a police case and contact the administrators of social media platforms with the aim of removing the video and blocking its circulation.
“The Department of Education wishes to appeal to members [of] that the public refrain from circulating [the] humiliating video clip as increased circulation will only serve to inflict further damage on the dignity of the victim for the rest of his life. “
