DURBAN – Government authorities in KwaZulu-Natal have asked COVID-19 patients to report early to health facilities saying this will reduce the high demand for ICU beds.
Currently, KZN has the highest number of active coronavirus cases in the country with more than 62,000.
At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, KZN Prime Minister Sihle Zikalala announced that more than 29,000 cases were detected in the last week alone.

Zikalala said they were concerned that many patients were late responders to COVID-19 systems, making it difficult for the healthcare system to help them.
“We strongly appeal to citizens to act quickly when they notice COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, dry cough, tiredness, loss of taste, shortness of breath or shortness of breath.”

Despite having the highest active case load in the country, the province’s Health Department, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, said the province still has beds for patients.
“In fact, as we speak today, we still have facilities that we haven’t even started using that have beds.
Meanwhile, provincial authorities said they were planning ahead before the vaccines arrive in the province and that a full vaccine implementation plan will be released in the coming weeks.
