KZN ANC reinstates corruption accused Mabuyakhulu as vice president

JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has reinstated its vice president, Mike Mabuyakhulu.

He and the embattled former eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede, were ordered to stand down in August.

Both face corruption charges and have appeared before the ANC’s provincial integrity committee.

Mabuyakhulu faces corruption charges over a R28 million North Sea Jazz Festival tender.

ANC Provincial Secretary Nhlakanipho Ntombela said Eyewitness news that the provincial integrity committee recommended the decision to reinstate Mabuyakhulu and was later adopted by the provincial executive committee on Friday.

“The report explained that they saw Mabuyakhulu, interacted with him and that he was open, sincere and honest in explaining his situation.”

Ntombela said that as long as she got back to work, this could change in the future.
