“The suspects fled the scene and the police were alerted. Police pursued the suspects along with assistance from the community,” said police spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker.
Two men, who were armed with a shotgun and a knife, were intercepted in a forest by police officers.

In another incident on Friday, a 46-year-old principal was shot and killed at a school in Msinga around noon.
The suspects fled in their getaway vehicle, which was found burning a few kilometers from the scene.
“The men allegedly kidnapped a teacher on her way home and fled in her vehicle. Police intercepted the vehicle at the KwaDolo Reservation in Greytown and six men were arrested,” Naicker said.
Police seized an R5 rifle, two revolvers and 65 rounds of ammunition, as well as eight cell phones and the hijacked vehicle.
“Six men between the ages of 26 and 38 will be charged with murder and vehicle theft, as well as illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They will appear in Greytown Magistrates Court on Monday,” Naicker said.
The firearms will be subjected to ballistics tests to determine if they were used in other criminal cases.
