- A KZN police officer has been shot dead in the line of duty.
- He was in a car with an arrested suspect when they were both shot and killed.
- KZN police say they will not rest until the assailants they have been arrested.
KwaZulu-Natal police have said they have mobilized all their available resources after a police officer was shot and killed while on duty Thursday night, police said Friday.
“We will not rest until we arrest everyone involved and have mobilized all our available resources to track down the suspects involved. I would like to send my condolences to the family of our fallen hero,” said KZN Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Khombinkosi. Jula.
Police spokesman Brig. Jay Naicker said Officer Jeandre Andries Jacobus Venter, 30, was stationed at the Alexandra Highway Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit. Naicker said Venter was in Msinga with a colleague “to arrest two suspects who were wanted for the theft of a motor vehicle that was stolen in Willowfontein” on October 5.
He said they headed to Mbabane Road, where they arrested a 25-year-old suspect.
“They continued to another house to arrest the second suspect. Agent Venter remained in the vehicle with the arrested suspect. The other police officer proceeded to the second identified house and while he was [a] a few meters away, he heard shots. “

Naicker said the officer found his colleague and the suspect dead.
“The police officer returned to the vehicle and discovered that Agent Venter and the suspect had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Murder charges were brought in Msinga SAPS and the Hawks were made charge of the investigation. “
