JOHANNESBURG – A faction of the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) in KwaZulu-Natal has called for the provincial executive of the African National Congress (ANC) to resign due to corruption in the province under their supervision.

The group, as well as South African Unemployed Graduates and some taxi associations, took to the streets of Durban on Friday, blocking the N3 highway.

They accused the government of not doing enough to combat unemployment.

The MKMVA said the government was making their employment impossible due to bureaucracy.

The MKMVA in KZN distanced itself from the march, but the group demonstrating on Friday said those who did not join were benefiting from the government through tenders and jobs.

“We are not satisfied with the way our ANC is behaving and the other reason is because the MKMVA is fully trained but they are not getting what they are supposed to get, for example employment,” said group spokesperson Zibuse Cele.

The ANC in the province met with protesters on Friday afternoon.
