KwaZulu-Natal Induna arrested for murder of man who was set on fire

A 58-year-old man, who is an induna in the Melmoth area, was arrested Sunday afternoon for his involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a man at Emasangweni in Melmoth.

Captain Nqobile Gwala said the man will now join his three co-defendants who were arrested last month.

She said her arrest follows the murder of Nkosi Xulu (26).

“It is alleged that on December 13, 2020, at 1 pm, a 26-year-old man was abducted from his home in Emasangweni in Melmoth. The suspects apparently set him on fire. He suffered severe burns and was taken to the hospital for medical attention, where he later died ”.

Mbele said murder and kidnapping charges were brought at Melmoth SAPS. The file was transferred to the Provincial Organized Crime Unit for further investigation.

He said that the team from the Provincial Organized Crime Unit managed to arrest three brothers, Mankomane Biyela (35), Njabulo Biyela (34) and Phiwayinkosi Biyela (37) for the murder.

Mbele said they appeared before the Melmoth Magistrates Court on December 22, 2020. All arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Melmoth Magistrates Court on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, welcomed the arrest of the suspects.
