Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela praised the appointment of former Bidvest Wits manager Gavin Hunt as the new boss at Naturena.
The current Golden Arrows manager has also been cautious about sharing advice with management, preferring to say they have to move faster with the coach they have.
Hunt’s arrival at the Glamor Boys comes after a disappointing 2019/20 campaign in which they handed over the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title to eventual champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who won it in the final match.
“It will be very interesting [to see Hunt leading Chiefs], but first of all I want to take the opportunity to congratulate Gavin Hunt and wish him well, he is a very close friend, make no mistake, “Komphela told the media.
“I don’t think that with the utmost respect for all the coaches available in the country, I don’t think there is anyone more deserving. He also deserves a chance and so does his pedigree.
“All I can do is that I’m not going to tell Kaizer Chiefs fans what to do.”
After parting ways with the Soweto giants two seasons ago, former Bafana Bafana captain has warned the club’s hierarchy to forget about last season’s misfortunes.
“I’m not going to tell Kaizer Chiefs management what to do, but all I can say in terms of football is that perhaps the best way to move forward faster is to move forward with the (coach) you have,” he added.
“Because if you want to go ahead with the one you have behind the previous energy, you complicate things.
“I just wish Gavin Hunt would step in, but he’s tough skinned, he’s a big boy. He’s been in the league for years ”.
The four-time PSL winner has already announced to his assistants on Monday in the form of legends Dillon Sheppard and Arthur Zwane.
Meanwhile, Amakhosi will look to clinch the MTN8 trophy to erase their league title loss, as they face Maritzburg United in the quarter-finals next season.
