JOHANNESBURG – Former head of legal and compliance at Eskom, Suzanne Daniels, said on Monday she was shocked by former generation boss Matshela Koko’s denial of knowing about the suspension letters from Gupta partner Salim Essa, which Koko said Daniels should have written.

Daniels was back at the commission where he said it was common knowledge that Koko was Essa’s ‘pet’ and spoke to him regularly.

She said she was surprised that the commission did not question Koko and treat her harsher than her.

Daniels said her daughter was now abroad due to the threats she received.

“Mr. Koko has looked into this commission to imply that it was I, and not he, who was the link between Mr. Essa’s designs and various dire decisions at Eskom,” he said. “As well as he may have spoken, anyone who knows or has dealt with Mr. Koko knows that this is not true.”
