The Dutch manager attended the pre-match press conference yesterday and was asked about Quique Setien’s recent comment on Lionel Messi and how difficult it is to handle a player because of his ego. Ronald Koeman was quick to defend his squad captain and claimed that
He is not a player who has difficulty carrying it, every week I talk to him about things from the field and the dressing room. I do not agree with Setién, but I respect what he has experienced.
Lionel Messi hasn’t had the best start to the season so far as the 33-year-old hasn’t scored a single goal so far in open play. The three goals that Messi has scored this season have come from penalties, however, this does not worry Ronald Koeman who believes that Messi will soon shine.
The Dutch manager was subsequently asked whether the club would sign a striker in the winter transfer market. Koeman responded diplomatically stating that the club lacks a complete number nine and that it has raised this issue several times, however the current financial status should also be analyzed.
Barça hope to secure the three points today against Dynamo Kyiv, as the Catalans have two demanding games in the league. A win today would give the moral boost to take on Real Betis and Atlético de Madrid one after another in the Spanish league.
