The Zulu monarchy and the KwaZulu-Natal provincial legislature mourn the death of King Goodwill Zwelithini’s eldest son, Prince Lethukuthula Zulu, and of the vice president of the legislature, Mluleki Ndobe.
Zulu died under mysterious circumstances at his apartment in Northwold, Johannesburg, on Friday after what is believed to be a robbery. Ndobe reportedly died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest.
National Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said Prince Zulu’s father and his wife were with Prince Zulu’s uncle, IFP founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, when they received news of the death of his son.
“It was with great shock that we learned of the sudden and unexpected passing of His Majesty’s first-born son, King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, King of the Zulu Nation. His Royal Highness, Prince Lethukuthula Zulu, was His Majesty’s eldest son with his first wife, Her Majesty Queen Sibongile MaDlamini, ”said Hlengwa.
Security personnel reportedly found the prince’s body in the compound where he lived, and he was suspected of being shot after a robbery went wrong.
His neighbors reportedly reported hearing a commotion in their apartment in the early hours of Friday morning.
This is also a great loss for all of us, as the people of KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa. It will leave a huge void in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.

Meanwhile, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal said it was shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of its leader, Mluleki Ndobe, affectionately known as “the Black Mamba.”
Ndobe was a Provincial Executive Committee Y Provincial Labor Comember of the committee and former provincial undersecretary of the ANC in the province.
“He is currently entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating eThekwini’s regional task force after the dissolution of the regional executive committee and bringing the region to its next regional conference, which was delayed by closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. , ANC Provincial spokesman Nhlakanipho Ntombela was subpoenaed on Saturday.

IFP President Velenkosini Hlabisa said that Ndobe was a man with the highest levels of maturity and sobriety.
“Even in presiding over meetings of the legislature, he always demonstrated fairness, open-mindedness, and respect for other people’s points of view. It is regrettable that his sudden and premature death robbed him of the opportunity to further contribute to shaping the lives of our people, ”said Hlabisa.
He added that the IFP fully understood that the ANC was Ndobe’s political party and had lost an asset and a great person in Ndobe.
“This is also a great loss for all of us, as people from KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa. It will leave a huge void in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature. May his family and the ANC be comforted knowing that he played a significant role in shaping our country, ”said Hlabisa.
