The four-time PSL champion coach explained why he can’t blame international Bafana Bafana
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has spoken out after his costly mistake against Black Leopards on Wednesday.
The experienced player tried to pass a pass to teammate Philani Zulu in the 12th minute of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) game.
However, the ball was intercepted by Leopards winger Ovidy Karuru, who then directed it into an empty net when the two teams tied 2-2 that night.
Khune, who has been criticized by fans on social media, took to his Instagram account to reflect on the encounter.
“Learn and grow: Since you have no control over what has already happened, you need to learn from the past and grow for the future,” Khune wrote.
“Always remember, it’s not what happened that matters the most; it’s how you respond to what happened that will have the biggest impact on future performances.
“Great comeback of the team.”
Amakhosi was trailing 2-0 at halftime, but two second-half goals from Khama Billiat and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo helped the Soweto giants hold Lidoda Duvha in a draw.
Meanwhile, Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt refused to blame his captain, Khune, openly when speaking to the media at the post-game press conference.
“Any mistake on any football field is disappointing and we all make mistakes,” Hunt said.
“It is very disappointing, but that is football, it is a game of mistakes. It happens, but we stick together, we were calm at half time and we made changes that I thought worked because there was one way traffic in the second half. I thought we could have won the game, but from where we were it was a good comeback and we just have to keep working. “
Hunt regretted the mistakes his team made this season after the Chiefs extended their winless streak to four league games by drawing with Leopards.
“We just have to keep working in training camp and try to do well,” added the 56-year-old tactician.
“That’s all we can do and stop making individual mistakes because in the games we’ve lost this year, individual mistakes cost us.”
Chiefs will face SuperSport United in a league game on Tuesday, December 15
