CAPE TOWN – Four hundred residents of Khayelitsha are asking for help rebuilding their lives after a New Year’s Day fire tore through their homes.
One hundred and fifty-two houses were destroyed in the informal settlement in Taiwan on Friday night.
It is not yet clear how the fire started.
Khayelitsha community activist Ntsiki Dlulani said help was urgently needed.
“Whether it’s bedding, clothing supplies, toiletries, food, or school uniforms that can help. This community has nothing. “

They were not provided emergency shelter, and many left on their own.
Dlulani said she is angered by the inability of the City of Cape Town to provide fire and shelter kits.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
