The 30-year-old had been on the Brazilians’ radar for quite some time and the club has finally managed to convince him to go to Chloorkop
Former Orlando Pirates forward Kermit Erasmus has joined the Mamelodi Sundowns from Cape Town.
This is after City announced that they had reached an agreement with Sundowns on the sale of the speedy forward.
Surprisingly, City confirmed the news on its social media platforms, but later deleted it and thus raised some eyebrows on whether the deal was 100% done.
“Cape Town City and Mamelodi Sundowns have reached an agreement on the transfer of Kermit Erasmus,” the club’s tweet read before it was deleted.
“A hero in the City jersey, we wish him the best of luck in the next phase of his career!”
Erasmus had been linked to a possible signing by the Brazilians for months now, but at times City seemed reluctant to sell the top scorer from last season.
He scored 14 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions for the Citizens last season.
The 30-year-old is Sundowns’ eighth signing before the 2020-21 campaign and Sundowns will be quite pleased to have finally achieved his long-term goal.
The former SuperSport United shooter joins George Maluleka, Lesedi Kapinga, Peter Shalulile, Ricardo Goss, Haashim Domingo, Mothobi Mvala and Aubrey Modiba among other players who recently sealed their moves to the Tshwane giants.
The Brazilians are expected to unveil it anytime from now, especially since he is reported to have already said goodbye to Cape Town teammates on Friday.
Erasmus goes to Chloorkop with great expectations after the season he had in Mother City, more so because he is an experienced activist and a proven scorer.
Sundowns will look forward to seeing it begin as soon as the 2020-21 season begins on October 24.
He will compete for a spot in the Sundowns starting lineup with players like Shalulile and Mauricio Affonso.
Affonso struggled with injuries in his debut season and couldn’t be used as much as the Sundowns coaching staff would have hoped.
At times, Sundowns used some of their attackers as forwards, including Lebohang Maboe and Themba Zwane, who are not natural central forwards.
