Durban – Kelly Khumalo’s attorney Magdalene Moonsamy has criticized reports that the singer’s name appeared in a leaked document in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

The document was mistakenly delivered to the media together with the charge sheet for the case of the five suspects who were arrested.

Moonsamy said that Khumalo had not been charged in connection with Meyiwa’s death. He added that Khumalo had no connections to any of the five arrested for the Meyiwa murder.

The leaked document showed the NPA briefing notes to the investigating officer, Colonel Bongani Gininda, of the SAPS unsolved cases unit. The document describes at least 10 tasks related to the investigation of the Meyiwa murder, of which two of the elements of the document concern the musician.

Belonging to Khumalo, the document requests the singer’s cell phone records.

“Ms Khumalo’s cell phone records must be obtained indicating her communication with the accused, as stated above,” he says.

Moonsamy said Khumalo has been cooperating fully with the police.

In an interview with eNCA, Moonsamy said Khumalo did not know any of the accused. Furthermore, he claimed that he was not aware of any impending arrests, as has been widely reported.

“The investigation, the statements, the events that unfolded have been thoroughly analyzed by the police over the years. There is no knowledge of the five individuals,” Moonsamy said.

She said the allegations of a hitman have been removed from the image.

Commenting on the leaked documents, he said it was done with malicious intent.

“It was malicious and had the malicious intent to create sensationalism around an individual who is continuously and under perpetual harassment,” he said.

Moonsamy said they were waiting for the investigations to be completed before taking legal action.

There has been widespread speculation about Khumalo’s role in Meyiwa’s death, and the singer is often the subject of questions about the former footballer’s killers.

Meyiwa was shot and killed at Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus in October 2014.

Last week, Muzikawulahlela Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokosizi Maphisa, and SifikuhleNkani Ntuli were arrested for Meyiwa’s murder.

They face charges of murder, aggravated robbery, attempted murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license.

All of them are currently behind bars serving sentences for different crimes, while others are still awaiting trial.
