The 56-year-old joined Amakhosi last week, replacing Ernst Middendorp and his former boss is aiming for success.

Black Leopards president David Thidiela believes Gavin Hunt will “switch” Kaizer Chiefs into a more competitive team after he was appointed a new coach at Naturena.

Hunt comes to the injured Chiefs who failed to win the 2019/20 Premier Soccer League (PSL) title on the final day of the season with rivals Mamelodi Sundowns snatching what was in Amakhosi’s hands.

Thidiela, who once worked with Hunt at Leopards from 2001-2002, talks about a man she describes as a “workaholic” and feels that the coach who has won four PSL titles is the right man for Amakhosi.

“He turned those boys [Leopards] into winners, it did magic, ”Thidiela told Far Post as she described how Hunt transformed Leopards into a competitive team.

“Gavin Hunt, he started with me, he’s a workaholic and he’s an easy coach to work with. You win, things don’t go well, he’s still the same man. It does not change.

“I wasn’t qualified when it was recommended to me. I was also a new man to the game and that’s why he was recommended to me. Gavin was sent by God. I had faith in him, don’t ask me why and how because I can’t explain it. I’d be lying to you if I tried to explain it.

“My father was a pastor at UAAC, the church I lead, and Gavin would go to him to pray for him before every big game. He was never forced, it’s something he did voluntarily.

“I don’t think so, but I know for a fact that the Chiefs will not be the same. Gavin is a good man and will change bosses. What makes it what it is is humble. “

The Leopards season was followed by spells on Moroka Swallows, SuperSport United, and Bidvest Wits.

The 56-year-old led SuperSport to three consecutive league titles, while another league crown was awarded at Wits.

He comes to Chiefs to take over a team that last won the PSL title in 2015.
