Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday landed a much needed 1-0 Group stage victory over Wydad of Morocco in a CAF Champions League match at the FNB Stadium.

The Chiefs’ biggest goal came in the 48th minute courtesy of a header from veteran Bernard Parker after Wydad’s defense failed to clear an aerial ball.

The Chiefs were left with 10 men for more than half the game after goalkeeper Daniek Akpeyi received a direct red card in the 40th minute for touching the ball outside the box.

Itumeleng Khune was called up for the rest of the contest.

Then in the 89th minute, forward Samir Nurkovic was also sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving Chiefs to end the match with just nine players on the field.

The victory means the Chiefs now have their qualifying destiny in their own hands.

In the other Group C match, Horoya of Guinea beat Petro de Luanda of Angola 1-0.

That leaves Horoya and Chiefs tied at eight points each in the group, although Horoya has a higher goal difference.

If the Chiefs qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, they will have to beat Horoya in Guinea in their final group game on April 10, Saturday of next week.
