As of Saturday morning, the Cameroonians had yet to land in Johannesburg prior to their clash with Amakhosi.

The second leg of the Caf Champions League preliminary round between Kaizer Chiefs and PWD Bamenda will now start at 7:00 p.m. South African time on Saturday instead of 6:00 p.m.

Bamenda’s arrival in South Africa was delayed due to visa complications and, as on Saturday morning, the team had not yet landed in Johannesburg.

The match was initially scheduled for Friday before Bamenda asked Caf to move to Sunday.

But the Chiefs settled for a kickoff on Saturday at 6 p.m. to give themselves time to prepare for Wednesday’s Premier Soccer League clash against Black Leopards.

“Caf approved our proposal to play the game on Saturday, December 5, 2020. We look forward to the arrival of the team,” announced Kaizer Chiefs on social media.

Now that Bamenda is expected to land anytime after noon on Saturday, the start time has been changed an hour later.

“After careful consideration, the Party Commissioner has moved the start of the match to 19:00 tonight. This is to allow PWD Bamenda to comply with all pre-match processes. In the spirit of Fair Play, ”confirmed Chiefs.

The Soweto giants enter the game with a lead after winning the away game 1-0 thanks to a goal from Eric Mathoho last Sunday.

Given that their Cameroonian visitors are expected to enter the game without enough time to shake off jet lag, the Chiefs could enjoy an added advantage against their opponents.

By winning this round of the competition, the Chiefs will face Angolan giants Primeiro Agosto, who are expecting a first-round confrontation.

After a difficult streak on the home front, the Chiefs are eager to ease their troubles by making a good impression in Africa.

They last participated in the Caf Champions League in 2016, when they were eliminated by the Ivorian giants Asec Mimosas in the first round stage and Amakhosi soccer coach Bobby Motaung is aware of the enormous task to which he face off in continental soccer.

“It’s a great feeling and also a great challenge. Once again we are on a bigger stage of things, we are in the thick of things in terms of coming to Africa, ”Motaung said.
